Meet Matt & Maggie Moberly.
The owners and lead instructors at Homegrown Yoga.

Homegrown Yoga was founded in 2016 by Maggie in Versailles, Kentucky, her hometown. What started as a humble studio grew to a 2400 square foot yoga center — hosting daily yoga classes, special events, retreats, and teacher trainings. Homegrown was a staple in the community and created a space for people to connect and find a personal yoga practice.

Homegrown partnered with local businesses including The Kentucky Castle Hotel, Castle & Key Distillery, and Woodford County Public Schools to offer yoga experiences, trainings, and events throughout the community. Matt joined the Homegrown team in 2019 and helped the business continue to grow and expand, even through the pandemic.

In 2022, Matt & Maggie felt the pull to relocate to Pawleys Island and decided it was time to make a shift. They sold everything, including their 6 year old yoga studio. The yoga community they built still exists and thrives today, a testament to what they built.

Maggie has a special bond with Pawleys Island, like many, it was her family’s vacation spot for over 30 years and her late mother’s favorite place to visit.

When her mother passed in 2014, Maggie took a deeper dive into her yoga practice and found it was the only thing that felt truly healing in a time of grief. She moved to Pawleys Island and completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training in Myrtle Beach (2016). At the time of graduation, Maggie was working at Island Wave Yoga in Pawleys Island as an instructor and front desk manager.

When Matt & Maggie started dating, Matt learned quickly that Pawleys was a special place and that he would end up spending a lot of time in the area, it didn’t take long for him to fall in love with it too.

After two years of settling into life in the Lowcountry and teaching throughout the area, the couple have decided to bring Homegrown Yoga back to life and are thrilled to find its home at Stox & Co in Pawleys Island.

Matt & Maggie are interested in helping people find what nourishes them and helps them navigate life’s challenges: mind, body, and spirit. They believe in yoga, it’s physical and mental benefits, but more importantly, the community it creates.

“Yoga has been the anchor through all of my hardest times. Learning and sharing yoga with others and discovering how to care for myself through its practices, has been, and continues to be, one of the most interesting and rewarding parts of my life!”

the instructors:

MAGGIE MOBERLY | E-RYT® 500, YACEP®, INHC
Practiced Since: 2002 | Started Teaching: 2016
Favorite Pose: Crescent Lunge

Maggie started practicing yoga at 10 years old, thanks to her dad who started a practice in the 70’s. The dance studio where she trained for 15 years also offered yoga classes for the competitive dancers. She took her practice deeper in 2014 as a way to not only move her body but process grief. She completed her 200-hour teacher training at Yoga in Common in Myrtle Beach in 2016 and her Health Coaching Certification with Integrative Nutrition in 2017. After several years of running her yoga studio, she completed her 300-hour training with Yoga Landing of Chattanooga in 2020. She is a Yoga Alliance certified Continuing Education Provider and has run numerous teacher training programs online and in Central Kentucky.

As a former dancer, Maggie loves to connect movement to music, which is why she loves the Vinyasa style of yoga. She is an advocate for intuitive movement, listening to your body, and having fun in yoga. She encourages students to not take yoga too seriously and to allow space for laughter and a couple good shimmies.

MATT MOBERLY | RYT® 200
Practiced Since: 2014 | Started Teaching: 2020
Favorite Pose: Dancer

Matt was experimenting with yoga poses as a form of cross-training after losing 100lbs in his early 20’s. When he met Maggie and began practicing regularly at Homegrown he discovered that yoga was exactly what he’d been searching for. Combining his love of community, philosophy, meditation, and movement into one. Matt completed his 200-hour teacher training through Homegrown Yoga Academy in 2020. Matt has a Bachelors in English & Philosophy and loves to incorporate words of inspiration and philosophy principles into his teaching.

As a former athlete and exercise enthusiast, Matt understands the importance of strength, mobility, and the connection between body and mind. He believes there is no better practice than yoga for longevity and movement sustainability. Matt loves to challenge his students but only while having some fun.

Off the mat, Matt & Maggie keep busy with their 7 dogs, walks on the beach, and creative pursuits. Matt is a trained goldsmith and Maggie has a degree in Visual Communications. They also own a fine jewelry brand, Tin Shed Jewelry.
