meet the owners:
Meet Matt & Maggie Moberly.
The owners and lead instructors at Homegrown Yoga.
Homegrown Yoga was founded in 2016 by Maggie in Versailles, Kentucky, her hometown. What started as a humble studio grew to a 2400 square foot yoga center — hosting daily yoga classes, special events, retreats, and teacher trainings. Homegrown was a staple in the community and created a space for people to connect and find a personal yoga practice.
Homegrown partnered with local businesses including The Kentucky Castle Hotel, Castle & Key Distillery, and Woodford County Public Schools to offer yoga experiences, trainings, and events throughout the community. Matt joined the Homegrown team in 2019 and helped the business continue to grow and expand, even through the pandemic.
In 2022, Matt & Maggie felt the pull to relocate to Pawleys Island and decided it was time to make a shift. They sold everything, including their 6 year old yoga studio. That yoga community still exists and thrives today, a testament to what they built.
Maggie has a special bond with Pawleys Island, like many, it was her family’s vacation spot for over 30 years and her late mother’s favorite place to visit.
When her mother passed in 2014, Maggie took a deeper dive into her yoga practice and found it was the only thing that felt truly healing in a time of grief. She moved to Pawleys Island and completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training in Myrtle Beach (2016). At the time of graduation, Maggie was working in Pawleys Island as an instructor and front desk manager of a local studio.
When Matt & Maggie started dating, Matt learned quickly that Pawleys was a special place and that he would end up spending a lot of time in the area, it didn’t take long for him to fall in love with it too.
After two years of settling into life in the Lowcountry and teaching throughout the area, the couple have decided to bring Homegrown Yoga back to life and are thrilled to find its home at Stox & Co in Pawleys Island.
Matt & Maggie are interested in helping people find what nourishes them and helps them navigate life’s challenges: mind, body, and spirit. They believe in yoga, it’s physical and mental benefits, but more importantly, the community it creates.
“Yoga has been the anchor through all of my hardest times. Learning and sharing yoga with others and discovering how to care for myself through its practices, has been, and continues to be, one of the most interesting and rewarding parts of my life!” –Maggie
